The Three Musketeers!
You Saw the Movies,
the Cartoon Series
and the Musical
But Did You Ever
Read the Book…?
The Three Musketeers, the classic tale of derring-do in seventeenth century France, is back on the big screen. It is one of those franchises that is re-imagined for every generation, from the 1920’s Douglas Fairbanks classic, to the 1950’s version featuring Gene Kelly, into the 1970’s with Michael York, and of course the 1980’s version featuring, er, Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds…
Alexandre Dumas’, original novel is a riot of political intrigue, featuring a femme fatale of the first order, illicit romance, and men with rather large swords. The story appeals to all ages, with wonderful illustrated editions for children . And if you are in the mood for swashbuckling adventure, Dumas wrote a couple of other books you just might have heard of, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Man in the Iron Mask . So whether you are seeing the new movie or not, if you love adventure, heroism, romance and intrigue in a historical setting, these are the books for you.
